Spotlight on a Gay Politician: Stu Rasmussen
Stu Rasmussen was born in 1948. Little is known about this man, as he is the mayor of a very small town in Oregon. But what IS known about Stu, is what is remarkable. Stu Rasmussen has the honor of being the first known transgendered mayor in the history of the United States.
Having served in the city council of Silverton, and as it’s mayor previously. Stu made waves when he returned to run for Mayor again, this time, dressed as a women. Silverton is a fairly conservative town, but conservative focus is more leveled at fiscal issues than social issues. Thus, Stu unseated a fairly popular incumbent in a campaign strictly about the issues.
“I am a dude,” he says simply. “I am a heterosexual male who appears to be a female. What I’ve done is blackmail-proof myself.”
